How do I know if it's real copper?
Pure copper isn't magnetic.
A lot of the copper jewelry sold online is either plated (a thin copper layer over a cheaper metal such as steel) or mixed with enough iron or nickel to react to a magnet. That makes a magnet the quickest way to check.
The test is simple:
- Grab any fridge magnet
- Hold it against your cuff, ring or necklace
- If it sticks, even slightly, it isn't pure copper
- If it doesn't stick, you're holding the real thing
